Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Islamic date today?

The date at the top of the page follows Umm al-Qura and Makkah time. You can adjust the Hijri date by one day to match local sighting.

Can the Hijri date differ by country?

Yes — it may differ due to different sighting localities, or because some countries follow a calendar without moon-sighting. Here we do not follow astronomical calculations; the date follows shar'i crescent sighting with the naked eye, as adopted by the bot.

What is the difference between Hijri and Gregorian dates?

The Hijri calendar is lunar and usually has 354 or 355 days, while the Gregorian calendar is solar and has 365 or 366 days. That difference causes Islamic observances to move through the seasons over time.

When does the date change?

The civil date changes at midnight in Makkah (UTC+3). Religious nights begin at local sunset, before their corresponding daytime date.

Which pages are most useful on this site?

The main resources are the Islamic date today homepage, the Hijri converter, the age calculator, the Hijri months guide, the Ramadan and Eid guides, and the month-by-month Hijri calendar archives.
