How is Hijri age calculated?
A Hijri year is approximately 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year, so your Hijri age is always higher than your Gregorian age. For example, every 33 Gregorian years equals roughly 34 Hijri years.
This calculator uses the official Umm al-Qura calendar for accurate age computation. It runs entirely in your browser with no personal data sent anywhere.
When does Hijri age matter?
Religious maturity: In Islamic jurisprudence, the age of religious obligation is calculated in lunar (Hijri) years, which arrives about a year earlier than the same milestone in solar years.
Zakat calculation: The hawl (one full year of wealth ownership) for Zakat is measured in lunar years. Calculating by Gregorian years could delay your Zakat obligation by several days each year.
Official documents: In Saudi Arabia and some other Muslim-majority countries, birth dates are recorded in Hijri on national IDs and passports.
Retirement age: In Saudi Arabia, retirement age is calculated by Hijri years. Since Hijri years are shorter, retirement arrives roughly 1.5 years earlier than it would by Gregorian calculation.

How to read the result
The result shows both lunar and solar age so you can see the real difference between Hijri and Gregorian year counting. That gap is expected because the Hijri year is shorter.
If you are using the result for religious reference, it is highly useful. If you need it for a formal document, always defer to the date format and source recognized by the original record or authority.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Hijri age higher than Gregorian age?
A Hijri year is about 10 to 12 days shorter than a Gregorian year, so more Hijri years pass over the same span of time.
Does Hijri age matter in Islamic practice?
Yes. Lunar years matter in topics such as zakat year calculations and other religious timelines measured according to the Hijri calendar.
Does the calculator store my birth date?
No. The calculation happens directly in the browser and does not send your birth date to an external server.
Can I use the result for official documents?
The result is a practical reference, but official paperwork should always follow the date format and source recognized by the issuing authority.
